On 9th March 2026, Sakshi with the support of Rio Tinto, inaugurated a new Skill Development Centre in Abehpur Village, Gurgaon.

The centre has been established with the goal of providing women from the local community with stitching and garment-related training, helping them build practical skills that can lead to sustainable employment. Many women in rural and semi-urban areas possess the motivation to work but lack access to structured training programs. The centre will provide stitching and garment-related training to village women, helping them gain practical skills and connect with employment opportunities nearby.

The training program focuses on preparing women for opportunities in nearby garment manufacturing units and related industries. With Gurgaon being a hub for apparel production and small manufacturing units, such skill development initiatives can directly connect trainees with job opportunities.

The goal is simple but powerful – to enable women to become financially independent and support their families.

This initiative builds on the success of an existing project run by Sakshi and Rio Tinto in another part of the city. The partnership has already demonstrated that structured training combined with employment linkages can create meaningful change for women seeking livelihoods.

Sakshi and Rio Tinto are already successfully running a similar Skill Development Centre in Dundahera, Gurgaon, where 30 women are trained every month and placed in nearby garment manufacturing companies.

Programs like these ensure that training leads to real outcomes. Placement-linked skill development allows women to gain not only technical knowledge but also workplace confidence, discipline, and exposure to professional environments.

This initiative has already made a meaningful difference in the lives of many women and their families.
