The second wave of the COVID pandemic in India
The second wave of the COVID pandemic hit India recently and the deadly impact has changed our lives completely turning it upside down. Everyone has been affected directly or indirectly in some way or the other. However, the worst hit are those people from low socio-economic backgrounds. They are without the necessary finances to afford any form of healthcare or necessary facilities to deal with the COVID. Many of them are seen sitting patiently for days on end outside hospitals trying to get admission and save the lives of their family members.
We at Sakshi which is a Non-Government Organization located in the capital of India Delhi, have a long history of helping and supporting the underprivileged and vulnerable groups. From the beginning of the COVID 19 which struck in 2020 we are providing the needy with Food packets /Dry ration kits/Oxygen Concentrators, Oxygen Cylinders all free of cost. Presently, however, the situation has become more complex and challenging as the numbers of needy and desperate people are increasing rapidly day by day. Hospitals are no doubt doing their very best, but due to insufficient staff, facilities, beds, equipment and medical aid, are unable to attend to the burgeoning requests for admission and help. A lot is being done by the government and other NGOs like ours to support hospitals and also people directly particularly those from disadvantaged and vulnerable communities. Despite all efforts, money still remains a limited resource, to cater to and provide the necessary and required need specific services to the disadvantaged. We therefore, appeal to each one of you for your generous help and to donate so that we can continue serving the under-served, deprived and needy in our country, during this critical period. Our plan is to address the existing grim situation in Delhi, which is one of the worst hit cities through action at the ground level by:
Dry Ration Distribution:
In Delhi, most of the daily wage workers are migrants as they come from other states in the country, Due to the pandemic situation, they are severely affected by lack of economic resources and loss of livelihood and no home to live in. Nor can they go back to their villages/homes as they are unable to navigate through the lockdown. SAKSHI is providing Dry Rations for the month, sanitation supplies, and even cooked food on a daily basis, as per the need of each community. A special message to all those within our reach, please do help.
Setting up COVID-19 Non-ICU Centres:
In the slum areas, Sakshi is converting its existing educational centres into 24X7 operational COVID-19 Non-ICU Oxygenated Centres. The staff will rotate through 4 shifts in a day. This service will be completely free of cost to all residents of adjacent slum areas. Facilities will include patient beds equipped with oxygen support for each bed oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders. We have tied up with nearby hospitals for complete medical supervision and daily Consultant visits. All staff to be given fresh PPE Kits per shift, meals, transport along with salaries. All patients will be provided medical facilities, treatment, medication oxygen if required, and nutritious food free of cost.
We firmly believe that every tiny donation, will be a huge help in saving at least one life. Please do share what we would like to do with your friends and family on social media. This will be an immense help, in taking this movement forward.
We look forward to your donations, as this a hard time for so many helpless and COVI stricken people out there. We pray that all together we shall be able to beat the havoc being caused by the COVID19, very soon.
